The information I collect and why:

Your name and contact details

I need this information to respond to your enquiry. If you decide not to proceed with counselling, your information will be deleted within 6 months. This is in case you re-contact me within this time so I have a record of our conversations. This will not be shared with anyone, person or company and will be kept on a secure database. This data will be stored in both my email and telephone directory, both of which are password protected.

Personal Details

If you decide to engage with my counselling service, I will also obtain personal details such as name, address, age, any medication and GP contact details. This data will not be shared with anyone, person or company, with the exception of my supervisor in which case you will not be identifiable as your full name and address will not be shared. This would be to ensure best practice in our counselling sessions and some of the information may be relevant to our work (i.e. medication). In line with our counsellor/client agreement this information may also be shared to protect vital interests for example, if you were posing a risk of harm to yourself or others. This data will be stored in a locked filing cabinet which is only accessible by myself.

Notes on our sessions

I keep brief therapeutic notes of our sessions which can only be accessed by me, Claire Sims. You can request access to these at any time. These will not be shared with any other person or company unless the law supersedes this policy. I keep these notes for 7 years post completion of therapy in accordance with BACP ethical principles and for insurance purposes. After this time the notes will be destroyed/deleted. This information will be stored on my personal computer in a password protected file.

I will never share your email/contact details with anyone and will only use these for the purpose of conducting my business, namely Revive Counseling Suffolk.

Email communication is hosted by Gmail so please keep information shared on there to a minimum and I recommend that email is used for arranging appointments rather than sharing personal, delicate information.
